This week i was thinking about how much people are so dependent on technology. We use it everyday talking to people on our cell phones through texting or on Facebook on our computers. We can communicate with people anywhere using webcams on these devices too. But are we too dependent on these things? I mean people went without them for billions of years and if our phones or computer dies we act like its the end of the world. For example this past week hurricane Irene took out the power in and I could not charge my phone and I felt a little depressed because i could not get on facebook or text my friends. I did not get a cell phone until around November of last year. So I went through almost all of high school without a cell phone while all of my friends were texting away and I was fine. Whenever I needed to talk to anyone I just called them from my house phone. Now during this two day power outage I was like a lost dog, did not know what to do with myself. I mean if this happened about a year ago I would have been fine.
I guess what I'm really trying to say is the world has become too attached to technology. If all the technology in the world failed today most people would not know what to do with themselves either. So a solution to this could be we should learn how to do everything that we do with technology without it. If you cannot call, text, or facebook someone write a letter. Thats what our ancestors did for the last billion years so why can't we. Yes that takes awhile but, we could also learn patience through that too. Another example in the some areas you can make things easily with technology but, if that suddenly fails you'll have to know how to make it by hand. I'm not saying there is something wrong with technology but, we should trying not using it sometimes. I know its hard without our precious technology sometimes but we should do something different for a change.
